The International Women's Rights Day (IWD), celebrated every year on 8 March, was commemorated at the Ministry of Budget and State Owned Entities, on Thursday 11 May 2023, at the initiative of the gender unit of the ministerial department. This activity was highlighted by the presence of Minister Moussa Sanogo, for whom the improvement of living and working conditions of staff in general, and women in particular, is a concern.
On behalf of the Minister, the Director of Cabinet Adama Sall welcomed the relevance of the theme of IWD 2023: "Technological and digital innovations: levers for the social and economic inclusion of women and youth in Côte d'Ivoire", which highlights the crucial role of technology and innovation in advancing gender equality. He said that "technology can expand women's and girls' access to education and open up new opportunities for them. He encouraged the facilitators of the cell to continue the dynamics launched in terms of gender promotion, to value the work of all, positively impact public policies and the way of working in harmony and respect for the potential of each one. "We will commit ourselves together to ensure and accompany the ongoing efforts to put in place the necessary tools for the promotion of gender," said the Director of Cabinet Adama Sall.
A statement that reassures the coordinator of the gender unit of the ministry, Ms. Fofana Mariame, who said that awareness of the promotion of gender equality and the reduction of economic and social inequalities are essential for the achievement of development goals of a society. "The celebration of this day must be the cornerstone of a strong commitment to the promotion of women, gender and good work," said Ms. Fofana.
The conference given by Ms. Sylla Awa, technical adviser to the Minister of Women, Family and Children, made it possible to realise that despite the significant gains made, many challenges remain in terms of respecting the rights of women, whose literacy and poverty rates remain high. Inspiring testimonies, including that of Mrs. Zahui, a computer scientist at the Ministry's Directorate of Administrative and Financial Affairs (DAAF), were also heard during the ceremony, which was attended by the Director General of Budget and Finance, Traoré Seydou, and the Director General of Customs, General Da Pierre Alphonse.
